What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device when you visit them. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to give the site owner information about how the site is being used.

This policy explains our position on cookies for www.lawesfinancial.com. It should be read alongside our Privacy Notice, which covers how we handle your personal data more broadly.

Cookies on this site

We have kept this policy because (a) we use cookieless analytics tools — explained in the next section — and (b) our position may change in future. If we add a service that sets cookies, we will update this page and ask for your consent where required by law.

One tool — our first-time buyer passport — can save your progress in your browser's local storage, but only if you explicitly ask it to, so you can pick up where you left off. That is functional storage you control and can clear at any time; it is never used for tracking, and it is not a cookie.

How we measure traffic

We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand which pages visitors look at and roughly where in the world they are coming from. Umami operates without setting any cookies in your browser.

It does not collect or store:

• Names, email addresses, phone numbers or any other personal identifiers
• Your IP address in a form that could identify you — Umami hashes IPs and discards them the same day
• Your browsing activity on other websites

The data we see is aggregated — for example, "the buy-to-let calculator was visited 240 times this month" — and we use it to decide which content to invest more time in.

We also use PostHog, through its EU service, to see how our tools and pages are used — for example which steps of a calculator people reach and, on some pages, where people click, combined into maps across many visits. PostHog sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, anything you type into a form is hidden before it is recorded, we do not send it your IP address, and we do not record videos of visits.

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, from the company that already delivers this website, to count page views and measure how quickly pages load. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, and Cloudflare does not use your IP address or browser details to follow you from visit to visit.

You can turn off all three tools on this device at any time from our privacy policy; we then save that one choice in your browser so we can respect it.

Third-party services

When you book a consultation, complete a fact-find, or get in touch through the site, your information is processed by services we use to run the business — for example, Microsoft 365 for calendar invitations and email. Those interactions happen server-to-server; they do not set cookies in your browser on the lawesfinancial.com domain.

If you follow a link from our site to a third party (a regulator, a calculator partner, a search engine), that destination has its own cookie and privacy practices, which we do not control. It's worth reading the privacy notice of any site you visit.
