I came from
a completely different world.
Before I stepped into finance, I worked in the music industry — managing artists, building creative brands, navigating contracts, and learning how to read people. Not just what they said they wanted, but what they actually needed.
That world taught me something that no financial qualification ever could: how to listen properly. How to understand what someone is really asking for beneath the surface of the question. How to build trust quickly and maintain it over time.
Whether it's structuring a complex development loan or guiding a family through their first mortgage, the skill underneath is the same: understand the person, then find the right answer for them specifically — not for a file that looks like theirs.
Finance since 2004.
Still learning every day.
Two recessions. A pandemic. A housing crisis. More interest rate cycles than I care to count. That breadth of experience means I've seen almost every situation a client can bring me — and I've seen what good advice looks like at each of those inflection points.
Over two decades I built expertise across residential mortgages, buy-to-let, bridging finance, commercial lending, and protection. I learned how lenders think, where the flexibility is, and how to find a way through when the obvious route is closed.
But I also saw the gap. Too much jargon. Too little time. Too many clients who felt like cases rather than people. That gap became the reason for everything that followed.
I wanted more autonomy.
And I wanted to do it differently.
Lawes Financial was built around one decision: to do this properly. Independent. Transparent. Focused entirely on the client's outcome — not on targets, not on preferred lenders, not on what's easiest to arrange.
Intelligent systems handle the research. AI-assisted workflows deliver faster preparation and cleaner submissions. But the advice — the recommendation that actually changes the outcome — is always considered, always specific, always accountable. That part will never be automated.
One broker.
Genuinely in your corner.
When you work with Lawes Financial, you work directly with the person whose name is above the door. That's a deliberate choice, not a limitation. You get consistency, accountability, and advice that's shaped specifically for your situation — not a template applied to a file.
I use intelligent technology to search the whole market efficiently, identify the right options, and stay on top of a fast-moving rate environment. But the advice is always personal, always considered, and always shaped by your specific circumstances.
I'm FCA regulated and operate as an Appointed Representative of Andrew Charles Consulting Ltd. I advise on the full range of UK property finance — residential, buy-to-let, bridging, commercial, second charge, and protection. I work with clients across the UK and internationally, of any nationality. For clients looking at property in Spain, I work closely with specialist partners through Duende by Lawes.
A dad, a photographer,
and a lover of Spain.
Outside of finance I'm a father of two girls, a lifelong creative, and someone who believes deeply that where you live shapes how you live. You'll find me with a camera, in the kitchen, or somewhere on the Costa del Sol — the kind of moments that remind you why the work actually matters.
Living between the UK and Spain isn't just a lifestyle decision — it means I understand the Spanish property world from the inside. The legal complexity, the currency questions, the practical steps international buyers don't always anticipate. That knowledge informs every conversation about making the move, whatever your starting point.
